MINDFUL WARRIOR

The demands placed upon our modern-day Military and First Responder communities necessitates an unprecedented level of mental and physical resilience (ability to bounce back in the face of difficulties). These men and women are consistently exposed to intense physical and mental stresses as well as at times life-altering traumatic experiences.

Continually high levels of physical and mental stress as well as exposure to trauma are having significant negative consequences for the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the people who serve our communities and nation day in and day out, as well as impacting their families and loved ones. We have seen examples of this with the roughly 20% of the 1.7 million returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or depression (approx. 340,000) as well as the unprecedentedly high numbers (estimated around 20 per day) of Veterans who commit suicide.

In recent evidence-based trials, Yoga and Meditation practices have been shown to reverse several of the physiological symptoms associated with those suffering from PTSD. Participants in these trials experienced less occurrences of negative thoughts and moods, hyper-arousal and re-activity as well as a greater sense of peace and tranquility.

As well as assisting warriors to deal with the aftermath of traumatic episodes, I also offer Yoga and Mindfulness practices to those currently serving and their families. My aim for the future to incorporate these practices into Military and First Responder training, so as to provide more tools to better prepare personnel for the physical, mental and emotional challenges that lay ahead.

Having undertaken training programs specifically designed to provide Yoga and Meditation services to Veterans, Military, First Responders and their families, I am dedicated to sharing these practices in order to decrease levels of stress and anxiety, increase resilience and when combined with psychological treatment, aid those suffering from PTSD and depression.
